Knockin' On Heaven's Door (song)
This is a cover of the song originally written by Bob Dylan for the soundtrack of the film Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.
The Sisters of Mercy regularly covered it live between 1984 and 1985, including the probably most famous performance at the last pre-split gig of the band at the Royal Albert Hall in London, UK.
A different live version from 1985 was released later, in 1990, on the Doctor Jeep single.
Also, various bootlegs derive their title from the song, for example Knocking On Heavens Door,
Knocking On Heaven's Door or Knockin' On Docks' Door. Of course, The Sisters of Mercy's cover of Knockin' On Heaven's Door is featured on many, many other old bootlegs as well.
Lyrics
Mama take this badge off of me
I can't use it anymore
It's getting dark, too dark to see
Feel I'm knockin' on Heaven's door
Knock knock knockin' on Heaven's door
Knock knock knockin' on Heaven's door
Knock knock knockin' on Heaven's door
Knock knock knockin' on Heaven's door
Mama wipe this blood from my face
I'm sick and tired of all this war
There's a long hard feelin' and it's hard to chase
Feel I'm knockin' on Heaven's door
Knock knock knockin' on Heaven's door
Knock knock knockin' on Heaven's door
Knock knock knockin' on Heaven's door
Knock knock knockin' on Heaven's door
Mama put these guns to the ground
I can't shoot them anymore
There's a long black train and it's comin' round
Feels like knockin' on Heaven's door
Knock knock knockin' on Heaven's door
Knock knock knockin' on Heaven's door
Knock knock knockin' on Heaven's door
Knock knock knockin' on Heaven's door
