Newpaper Cutting Mentioning The Gig

Brixton Ace, London, England

Part of The Sisters of Mercy's UK Spring Tour in 1983.

Other acts performing on that day included the Sex Gang Children, Look Back In Anger and Play Dead.

As you can see in the picture on the right, the evening was announced in the papers, while omitting the fact that

The Sisters of Mercy were also part of the event.

NOTE:   It has often been suggested - and stated on covers as well -

that this concert formed the basis for various bootlegs like Halloween In Arkham or Carmina Burana.

That assumption is wrong; the source for those bootlegs is another gig of The Sisters at Brixton Ace in February 1983.

Setlist

- The Sisters' setlist for this gig is not known as there is no recording of this concert nor any other reliable source. -

Additional Remarks On The Setlist
The Italian LIFE fan-book issued in 1988 and widely perceived as quite inaccurate does, however, give the below setlist.
This list is entirely wrong and was just taken from the Halloween In Arkham bootleg without further comment, which has
caused decade-long rumour and discussion.

The first part (tracks 1-6) of that list is actually the setlist of the concert at Brixton Ace on February 19th, 1983,
and the second part (tracks 7-11) is from the John Peel Session at BBC Radio One on 11.7.1984,
except for Jolene, which is most likely from the Kid Jensen Show in March 1983 at BBC Radio One.

We mention the below setlist here only for reference in order to end rumours
and should be very glad, if the correct setlist should surface one day.

  1. Alice
  2. Valentine
  3. Anaconda
  4. Body Electric
  5. 1969
  6. Sister Ray
  7. Poison Door
  8. No Time To Cry
  9. Walk Away
  10. Emma
  11. Jolene
