Revision as of 16:07, 6 November 2016

This page is Work in Progress and going to be extended as soon as ever possible

This 12" live bootleg was first released as Live In Hull 1983 and then reisssued as A Fire In The Hull. It is very obvious, that the first issue was the prototype for the second one.

Life In Hull 1983 - First Edition LP Cover (front)
A Fire In The Hull - Second Edition LP Cover (front)

The records contain a soundboard recording from the last gig of The Sisters of Mercy's UK Spring Tour 1983 in Hull, PLUS further two songs from the according soundcheck.

The peculiarity of this bootleg - aside from the really good sound quality of the recording - is that a lot of songs were played out of tune and sometimes even messed up. With the exception of Doktor Avalanche, all members of the band are mistaken at times during the performance.

Nowadays, it's impossible to tell why this happened. Possibly, the fact that this was the final concert of the tour and that it took place in the hometown of `Gary Marx gave rise to a certain lack of concentration.

Anyway, the audience were fully enjoying the gig and so the listener should be pleased with this bootleg as well.

Remarks

  • The sound quality is very good as it comes from a soundboard recording
  • Cover notes on both editions:
"A VERY MERCIFUL RELEASE HAMBURG GERMANY"

Editions

  • The first edition is a very rare item as it was strictly limited to 30 hand--numbered copies.
Most remarkably, an even early edition limited to only 10 hand-numbered copies was seen as well,
see the pictures down below
  • These records come in a generic white cover with a white A4 xerox sheet giving all the track and bootleg information
glued to the cover front, while the cover back is plain white.

  • The second edition comes with a proper cover as shown in the images above and below.
  • It was pressed on a wide variety of different vinyl colours, some of which also limited to very low numbers of copies.
i.e., the multi-coloured splattered vinyls are very rare as well. According to the sellers information @Discogs, there are only 8 copies of each colour combination.
  • The single-coloured vinyls usually come with a round sticker in the top right corner
for example: "LIMITED EDITION RED VINYL"
  • Colours surfaced so far:
Splattered: black and white on clear vinyl, black and green on clear vinyl, black and yellow on clear vinyl
Single-coloured: clear, orange, red, white
  • Sets consisting of a collection of all four single coloured vinyl are sold as well.
  • All these copies are not numbered, as this, apparently, is not a limited edition.
  • Additional back cover notes on this edition:
