Where Spirits Fly

This song has not become an official release from The Sisters of Mercy.

It was used as an instrumental soundcheck several times in 1984, though.

Known occasions of such soundcheck usage are:

Rare Obscurities - CD
Spirits/Sister Ray 7"

Two of these instrumental soundchecks can be found on various bootlegs.

The Guildford Civic Hall soundcheck was used only twice - for the Spirits/Sister Ray 7" bootleg single

and for the Rare Obscurities bootleg CD

Here is an according still video ... of it.

All other appearances of the instrumental track are from Markthalle, Hamburg.

Click here for a still video of the soundcheck there...

Rough Diamonds - LP
The Acid Rain - LP
Echoes Vol. 3 - LP
Hard Reign - 7"
ECHOES VOL. III - CD

As the music and the lyrics were written by Gary Marx, a full version of Where Spirits Fly did make its way onto the first Ghost Dance album Gathering Dust.

A still video of this track can be found here ...

Lyrics

Gathering Dust - Ghost Dance Album Cover (front)

Take a chance on me that's all I'm asking
Throw doubt and caution to the wind
And we can trip the light fantastic
Come with me now spread your wings

Where spirits fly that is where I long to be
Where you and I can see beyond our wildest dreams
Close your eyes and we could almost be
Where spirits fly, beyond belief

Back in the land of the living where we're tied and bound
And the weight of the world keeps bringing me down

Where spirits fly and you and I are free
To walk the line between flesh and fantasy
Close your eyes and we could almost be
Where spirits fly, beyond belief

Take a chance on me that's all I'm asking
Dance where angels fear to tread
Sometimes I wish I could shed my skin
And leave this wounded land for dead

Where spirits fly that is where I long to be
Where you and I can see beyond our wildest dreams
Close your eyes and we could almost be
Where spirits fly, beyond belief
