This Corrosion - 12" Single
Floodland - Album
Shot - Video (front)
A Slight Case Of Overbombing
Shot Rev 2.0

This Corrosion was released on September 18th, 1987 on the This Corrosion single, with slightly shorter lyrics for the 7" single compared to the 12" single, (see below).

Initially, the song was to become the second single by The Sisterhood, but Eldritch changed these plans and kept the track for the second The Sisters of Mercy studio album Floodland.

Various demo versions of the song are, however, circulating with Andrew Eldritch and/or James Ray (of The Sisterhood in that case) on vocals.

Finally, Andrew Eldritch was able to win Jim Steinman for the production of the song and it was released as an advance single to the album Floodland, which features the song as well. For some additional information on these developments see The Sisterhood and "This Corrosion" @wikipedia. To promote the album Floodland, an accompanying video selection titled Shot was produced, which also includes a This Corrosion video.

In 1993, This Corrosion made its way onto the compilation album A Slight Case Of Overbombing - Greatest Hits Volume One, while the video was again part of the revised video collection Shot Rev 2.0, also released in 1993.

This Corrosion was first performed live in 1990 by the Speed Kings at the (unofficial) first gig of The Sisters of Mercy's return to stage after the 1985 split of the old line-up. The song has been part of The Sisters' live-set ever since.

In addition, it has widely been covered by bands and performers as varied as Lambchop, In Extremo, Lisa Cuthbert The BossHoss, Diane Birch or Maryslim and many more. In 2013, This Corrosion was also featured in the film The World's End (and the according soundtrack release). An according "The Sisters of Mercy" t-shirt series was also part of the promotion to the film.
