This Corrosion was released on September 18th, 1987 on the This Corrosion single, with slightly shorter lyrics for the 7" single compared to the 12" single, (see below).

Initially, the song was to become the second single by The Sisterhood, but Eldritch changed these plans and kept the track for the second The Sisters of Mercy studio album Floodland.

Various demo versions of the song are, however, circulating with Andrew Eldritch and/or James Ray (of The Sisterhood in that case) on vocals.

Finally, Andrew Eldritch was able to win Jim Steinman for the production of the song and it was released as an advance single to the album Floodland, which features the song as well.
