Kai on stage with The Sisters of Mercy in 2023

When Dylan Smith had left the stage during the encores of the starting gig of The Sisters of Mercy's 2023 Tour of Europe at London Roundhouse, 22 September 2023 having The Sisters perform the following shows as a three-piece, Kai stepped in after thirteen gigs as their second guitarist on 14/09/23 at Posthalle, Würzburg, Germany for the remaining concerts of the tour as well as for the rescheduled and new concerts in January 2024.

Before joining The Sisters, Kai has long been known as a multi-instrumantalist and founding member of the highly-acclaimed award-winning British-Japanese electronic metal band Esprit D'Air, which he is running as a solo project with changing guest musicians since 2016.

Between 2018 and 2019 he also participated as a guest musician in Ben Christo's Shot Through The Heart nights. Reversely, Ben Christo contributed vocals and lyrics to the track Dead Zone on Esprit D'Air's most recent studio album Oceans released in February 2022 and has occasionally appeared for live performances of this song on stage with Esprit D'Air. Ben Christo also played the guitars on Esprit D'Air's September 2023 cover release of the Iron Maiden song The Trooper.

From February 12th to April 1st, 2024, Esprit D'Air are touring the UK incl. Northern Ireland & Scotland, Ireland (Eire), The Netherlands, Germany and Belgium with Ben Christo's "dark-rock juggernaut" Diamond Black as their special guest on all dates.
