This Corrosion was released on September 18th, 1987 on the This Corrosion (single), with slightly shorter lyrics for the 7" single compared to the 12" single, see "This Corrosion" single (September 1987).
Initially, This Corrosion was to become the second single of The Sisterhood, but Eldritch changed these plans and kept the track for The Sisters of Mercy's second studio album Floodland. For additional information on these developments see The Sisterhood and "This Corrosion". However, various demo versions of the song are circulating with Andrew Eldritch and/or James Ray (of The Sisterhood) on vocals.
Finally, the This Corrosion single was issued as an advance to Floodland, where the song can be found as well. For the promotion of Floodland, an accompanying video selection titled Shot was produced, which also includes a This Corrosion video.
This Corrosion was first performed live in 1990 by the Speed Kings at the (unofficial) first gig of The Sisters of Mercy's return to stage after the 1985 split of the old line-up. The song has been part of The Sisters live-set ever since.
In 1993, This Corrosion made its way onto The Sisters of Mercy's compilation album A Slight Case Of Overbombing - Greatest Hits Volume One, while the video was again featured on the revised video collection Shot Rev 2.0, also released in 1993.
