David Bowie (8 January 1947 – 10 January 2016), whose real name
was David Robert Jones, was one of the great artists of his time.
There has such a lot been said and written about him, that we prefer

Andrew Eldritch mentioned David Bowie as one of his early influences among others
in an interview with Swedish P3 FM radio in 1988 that was widely bootlegged, see for example here.
In 1995, he interviewed David Bowie for the German issue of the Rolling Stone music magazine.
That interview was originally published in German language titled Mikrochirurgie: Andrew Eldritch von den Sisters of Mercy seziert David Bowie.
A transfer into English was spread later in Issue XIV of The Sisters of Mercy's official fanzine Underneath The Rock, pages 4, 5 and 6.
In 2011, The Sisters of Mercy covered the Bowie song John, I'm Only Dancing several times live during their SISTERS XXX 30th Stage Anniversary Tour.
The bootleggers of I Can't Await To Meet My Deadly Friends also made references to David Bowie in connection with their release,
already in 1985, though, that was surely a matter of phantasy (please check under "First Edition" for more details).
Most currently, in 2016, another (slightly distant) parallel appeared, when The Sisters of Mercy covered the A-side of Jonathan Richman's
1977 Netherland's single Roadrunner, which has a track covered by David Bowie on side B.
